Nephew's Hanging Airplane

My sister asked me months ago to build her a hanging airplane she found on Crate & Barrel’s website that they no longer sell (Red Plane). That was the only direction I was given by my sister, wood selection, finish and actual shape of the plane was left up to me.

I had some aromatic cedar in my shop already, and thought it would look really good with all the different colors in the wood, esp. for a babies room.

Originally I decided to finished it with General Finished Pre-Cat water based poly, but my buddy Drew over at Rock-n H Woodshop told me to try a couple coats of tung oil, then finish it off with half tung oil/poly brew.

Here’s a short VIDEO on my Youtube channel.

Hope you enjoy!

Lance

Wow, that plane is bigger than I thought. Once I saw the video and seen you standing next to it really accentuate it how big it really was. I am glad the finish that I recommended turned out just like you wanted. I know your sister and new nephew will love it. Great job on the project, and thank you for the shout out!

That is very nice one. The wood color looks good. It’s an amazing work.

That’s one beautiful and well designed plane. Like the cedar and the finish. I’m sure the kid is very proud to have it. Great job!
