My sister recently bought a used table on Craigslist but it only came with 3 chairs so she asked me to make her a bench for it. Her only request was that it be 17” tall and flat black to match the other chairs. I did some looking around on the web and found the traditional 5 board bench design. I also found Charles Neil’s video on YouTube and figured that I could build a variation on that design. It also gave me an excuse to try out the new bandsaw. It is 36” wide, 17” tall, and 11” wide. I painted it a flat black and gave it some light distressing. The top and sides have 4 coats of satin polyurethane and the rest of the bench has 3 coats.

You can follow the build on my website at:

You can download a free sketchup file of this project in the downloads section of my web site.

Sleek and sturdy bench. Like the design and color. Great job! I’m sure your sister likes it.
