Maple and Mahogany Chessboard

I wanted to have a nice chessboard to play chess on, so I did the natural thing a woodworker would do—make one! I used two inch squares for the board which seem about right. I replaced the pieces shown in the photo with some higher quality tournament pieces.

If I was to do it again, I’d add some inlay around the board to dress it up a bit. I already have a bunch of the wood cut, so it seems like I’m going to make a second one whether I like it or not!

A fun and easy project and one you and your whole family can enjoy!

Nope, just maple and mahogany for the top. The base was using some popular I had lying around the shop.

That turned out great. A chess board is on my list of things to make but at the rate I’m going it may be quite a while.
