My friend Rick aka Staryder had a neighbor that chopped down a Silver Leaf Maple Tree. After both of us sweating in texas humidity loading some logs in the back of my truck, I sawed them all and waxed em.

This one was starting to get real soft on the outside so I decided I better turn it. Since It was looking funky, I decided natural edge was the way to go. As I started turning I noticed this one real soft spot that I couldn’t turn away, so I puled all the wet fibers out which left a nice hole. I kept going slowly and this is what turned out.

Its my first natural edge bowl, and my 4th bowl overall. I had some trouble sanding the edges, but it turned out okay.

I didnt feel like rewaxing it, so I’m a little scared of cracking, but hey.. it already has a hole. I drenched it in mineral oil, and will probably do that daily for a week, to help slow down the drying some.

Thanks :)

Fine piece of work. I think it “turned” out great.

Looks good! Natural edge bowls, especially leaving the bark on, is always a challenge. Keep on at it!

Gorgeous bowl! Like the graceful shape and the natural edge. The hole and the bark inclusion just added some character ti it. Great work!

What an amazing piece of art, nice job. I really want to try that someday.

This pic made my day.
