I made these Adirondack chairs for my girlfriend’s father, a couple weeks ago. I figured if I stress him out, this could help him relax a bit.

I found the plans on popular mechanics, but I modified a few things. They are made of western red cedar and were delivered unfinished The arms went from 5/4×6 to 2×8 for holding cups, books or whatnot. The legs where bumped up to 2×6’s and carriage bolts where added in a few locations instead of the usual screws. They took longer to make then I anticipated, but, I will definitively make another set for myself sometime.

They are very comfortable.

Adirondack chairs are deceptive. They look so simple to make but they have a crap load of parts and more wood required than you would think at first glance. Good call on bumping the legs to 2×6s and I really like the arm modifications. Nice job.

Really nice Adirondack chairs. I like the wide arms.

Thanks guys.

Yeah they were very deceptive in the amount of labor that went into them. The cost i thought was very reasonable compared to the fact that plastic ones are 300$ around here. My cost came to almost a quarter of what it would cost for both of them.

Now I just need to make him the table that goes with these chairs.

They sure look comfy and sturdy. Great design and build. I’m sure your girlfriends’s father will like it.
