My first bandsaw box I ever made. My dad started making them and this was my first attempt at getting in on the fun. Not my best work but it still turned out great. I made it as a gift for a friend of mine that incidentally is now my wife. I made her a puzzle piece before I even knew she was my missing piece.

Nice box. I tried making a bandsaw box but i kept breaking blades. I was using a narrow blade (1/4” i think) bc of the tight curves. I even switched to using cedar, figuring a softer wood would be easier on the blade – nope. Needless to say, my bandsaw and i are not best friends.

Thank you for the comments. I understand the frustration with your bandsaw. I haven’t had issues with blades breaking but they do seem to wear out quickly. My main frustration with our bandsaw is that it is old only has a stabilizing bearing on the rear of the blade and only on top. It requires extra care to keep the blade steady to avoid chatter and ensure that my cut on the bottom is in the same position as the cut on top. It works fine for most shop projects since we build cabinets and rarely even use it. We are working on modifying a smaller bandsaw to have more precision and make these side projects a little nicer. That’s the constant battle of priorities over the work we do to pay the bills and the extra money and time for the more fun and challenging but often less profitable craft work. You can see the zebrano ring box I posted has much tighter tolerances than this puzzle piece, but that was because I was able to use a scroll saw instead of the bandsaw.

What a great idea. I can see people making custom BS boxes like this all over the place. I also try to get away from the “Square” looking designs. Thanks for sharing

Excellent work, love the finished look you achieved. I like the design, it’s very unique.

Thanks to one and all. It definitely turned out pretty well considering I couldn’t really plan for how the wood would change. I didn’t plan for the two lighter shaded pieces to sandwich the the three darker pieces but looks nice. I just recently finished a box that I hope to upload soon. The grain came together amazingly and again, I wish I could say I planned it but, I didn’t notice it until the excess wood had been cut away. Truly the greatest artist was and is God when he grew the tree but it is a blast being able to expose his handiwork in the handiwork he blesses me with the talent to accomplish.
