Spalted Maple Slimline Pencil

I finally decided to make a mechanical pencil for my shop instead of constantly sharpening pencils to get that sharp line for dovetail cutting. I got a whole bunch of this maple from a tree in our neighborhood that came down about 8 months ago.

I like the feel of the wood when writing so I don’t use high build finishes. This is sanded to 12,000 grit, Danish Oil, then Shellawax as the final coat.

Attention pen swappers: I put 4 of these blanks from the same tree in the swap box!

I really like the look of that pen, spalting just gives the wood a completely different look.

that is a beautiful pencil! i love the spalting! they look beautiful on the pen. just like you are making this pencil for your shop i am going to be making my pens and pencils for school this year. that is going to be fun!

so i heard that you put some of those in the pen swap box. is it too late to join :)

Just came up on the project-go-round…BEAUTIFUL PEN !!! That’s a lot of Spalt in one piece of wood …You really turned a wonderfull project here : )

-- When did quiet and quite become the same word ? I'm guessing about the same time as your and you're did.

Did anyone that received your blanks make and post their pens or pencils here ?
