My woodshop is in the same building as some custom bike makers. They’ve been harassing me for two years to make a wooden bike. I would always smile and nod and then as I walked away I would think “that would be awesome but it’ll never happen.”

Well, I got the bug a fe weeks ago and dove in!

It’s walnut and Purple Heart. Every curved component is bent lamination. The front fork is a solid block of wood thy hold the fork blade with a long sliding dovetail. All the bike components are compression based.

This was the funniest and most challenging thing I’ve done. It was a blast!

Sorry for the lack of good photos. All but the first are before it was finished. I’ll post more soon!

Ps. It’s a soft ride. I’ve got about 10 miles on it so far.

Love it! Now you will be making bikes for the rest of your life. Not such a bad idea though….....

The bike is awesome. Congratulations on your challenge. Word of caution, don’t ride through any flaming hoops.

Looks more like a piece of art than a mode of transportation. Well Done!
