Yes, that’s a tape measure in the foreground…so that’s where it went to!

Simple bed design but since I was making it without my power tools (while visiting my son) it took me a fair amount of time. Lots of sanding but I think it paid off. Used Watco Danish Oil—three ‘coats’ and then 2 thin coats of poly for durability. Purchased the cherry from Ed Perdew up near Rhinelander, Wis. Ed has a small sawmill and can tell you the story about each log.

That’s part of the fun of woodworking, isn’t it—having a story (or two or three) that goes with each piece, and then passing down the stories with the piece. Hopefully they’ll all last for generations.

Beautiful bed with gorgeous cherry. I love the stories behind great pieces. It adds that much more mystique and character. Thank you for sharing.
