My first turned box was a good learning experience. Made from beech. Turned the bottom section first. Used a forstner bit the clear the inside. Was going to try wire burning. But after cutting in location grooves with a dental tool (used to remove tartar) from my wife, I decided they looked good enough. Finished the bottom section before parting off and finishing its base.

When I turned the lid I kept testing fit until the bottom fit in snuggly. However the top seems to have grown during finishing and the final fit is looser than I expected. Dimensions are 3.5” x 2”. Any ideas what caused poor top fit?

Finish was 1 coat BLO, 3 General Wood Turners finish, and a final coat of wax.

Thanks for looking. Comments welcome.

Very nicely done.

Pretty little box! Like the shape and the wood choice.

Have your say...
