I have been unfortunately using a cane periodically to help me get up after sitting for awhile. One day, my 3 and a half year old son thought he needed the cane when I was trying to get up and I was in a lot of pain. So I made him this cane and he walks around with it, and sometimes rides it like a little horse. The best part is that he leaves me alone with my cane.
It is made from a poplar dowel, and a piece of unknown wood that a gentleman gave that was moving back to his home country. I connected the two with a piece of 1/4 threaded rod and epoxy. I stained the dowel with some wipe on finish on sale from Walmart. I shaved down the foot end with a draw knife so that the 5/8 rubber foot would fit. I could have gotten a 3/4 foot, but I thought it would look ungainly with such a big foot on such a short cane.
I actually like his cane better than mine, so I may have another project coming up.
