My Late Father was an avid fan of western movies, I grew up on a diet of John Wayne, Louis Lamour and James Stewart. So when his 70th birthday was coming up I decided to carve him something that would take him back to those days.

I have to say that for this one I cheated a little and followed the instructions from a book. I can’t remember the author but it was about carving Movie Characters.

This little chap is about 8 inches tall and carved from Cherry, his rifle is a piece of yew.

Dad loved it!

This has a lot of character. Very nice job (on all of your pieces). I’m always amazed by carvers, turners, and scrollers. You guys are the true artists of the woodworking world

Since I’m one of those parents who feed his children a steady diet of John Wayne, Louis L’Amour, James Stewart and many other western stars, I really relate to this piece. Great character study of the classic cowpuncher!

Kinda looks like Sam Elliot from Gettysburg! This is my favorite piece of yours so far. Simply great!
