I think this still counts as a woodworking project. It is almost completely made of pallet wood or other scraps I had laying around. It is also the first project I have gotten to use my new (inherited Grandfather’s) table saw. The big plank on the left is a big cardboard glue-up. The middle column is a big piece of oak covered in carpet. I thought that it would be stiff enough that I wouldn’t need any other support but my base piece of 3/4” plywood was a little too flexible to hold the 5 foot tower. I added a 2×6 to the side for a little more support. We will probably put some rope on that for another scratch option.

As you can see, the customer appreciates it.

My wife has been trying to get me to make one of these for years! I have put it on the back burner for a long time but now she made me promise to make one for the cats this christmas.

Get a minimum of fifty feet of sisal rope. I made a kitty condo for my wife’s cats when I first met her. I was surprised how much rope it took to wrap a post. Also amazed me what the cats could do to my hard work, you can’t even tell it was braided rope . Just a fuzzy post now. All good though. Nice job on yours.

Great idea and I’m sure your cat enjoys and loves it. Well done!
