Been working on this table for a while. It’s made of cherry, with a cherry veneer top and a diamond QS cherry central diamond inlay, with corner round QS cherry inlays.
It’s a very complex shape, with convex and concave curves, requiring many jigs, patterns, and use of just about every tool in the shop.
The legs were made from gluing two pieces of 12/4 cherry together, and than turning and carving those massive pieces. Hernias were had by all involved, as the cherry arrived as 12 foot long, 12/4 cherry boards that had to be cut down to size, jointed, planed, etc.
It’s been tough to photograph it accurately. The colors are way off on the inlay photos. The inlays are much more striking in person.
Finish is Transtint dye sealed with garnet shellac, with a GF glaze – also sealed with garnet shellac, toning with Transtint/lacquer, and finally 3 clear coats of low gloss pre-cat lacquer.
