Project Information

Heres a couple of bowl/platters from a eucalyptus tree which was harvested just down the road from my house in Tarpon Springs, Fl. The peice with no finial is ment for the owner of the tree which was harvested from hisfront yard by a local group who rescues trees otherwise
Meant for the dump the owner made a deal to split the material and this will be one of many offerings from me for future material.
This is meant to be a surprise and i do think he is a fellow Lumberjock so ill keep my fingers crossed he doesnt put two and two together.
As for the peice with the finial I had turned the finial out of holly and had it sitting around when i started turning the and thought to myself what it would look like I like it something different but I will ask your opinion .
Both peices finished in just Walnut oil right now might just leave them the way they are or might wax and buff them out, as alwayw thank you for your comments and sharing your works of art for me to enjoy and get inspired by

Your bowls look great and the finial gives it a very nice look. Did the oil give the bowls the red/orange tint or did you use a dye also?

I'm a big finial fan, very nicely done on both accounts.

Thanks for the great comments guys, Vince the color is just the lighting the pic with the ruler was taken in my office with overhead florecents and the other pics were in my shop on my lathe that looks like a air port run way but the eucalyptus is a red color and the walnut oil is the color of cooking oil so i think it was just the lighting but as always thanks for the wonderful words take care

Both platters look great. Like the shapes and the finial. Eucalyptus is pretty, has very nice colors and grain patterns. Great job!
