A Pair of Walnut Frames

Over the last few weeks I have been remodeling my Guest Bathroom.

New paint, new fixtures, new lights, new draw fan – everything.

I also got to remove the nasty contractor-grade mirror and decided to build my own frame for a new one.

While I was at it I also made a frame for a pretty special poster.

They are hanging side-by-side in the room.

Both are made of 1 1/4” thick walnut.

The mirror frame measures 28×40 inches and the poster frame measures 15×30.

Finish was a few coats of wipe-on poly.

Bonus for anyone who can tell me the significance of the poster! :-)

Cheers!

Okay, Kelly forced it out of me – the story of the poster…..........

You HAVE to like the Beatles to know this one – I mean REALLY like the Beatles. :-)

The Song is entitled “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!”, written in 1967 by John Lennon – here’s how/why he wrote it:

John Lennon bought the poster—advertising Pablo Fanque’s Circus Royal—from an antiques shop in 1967. It hung in his music room where it provided inspiration while he was writing for Sgt. Pepper. Initially banned by the BBC for what it believed were drug references, much of the ornate language of the song was actually taken straight from the poster. Lennon said, “I had all the words staring me in the face one day when I was looking for a song … I hardly made up a word.” — Excerpt from “John Lennon’s circus poster reborn” Web Page

For more info on this, as well as a VERY cool story on the reproduction of this poster, click on the link above.

So, that’s the story – My bathroom contains only Beatles inspired themes, thus the poster and the John Lennon scrollwork you can also see in the mirror reflection. There are more decorations, but these two are the nicest.

Cheers!
