This box was commissioned by Danielle to hold a Kalimba, an African thumb piano, see here.
The body is Mahogany
The lid is quilted Western Big Leaf Maple
Handle is Black Palmwood
Brass pins for the hinges
Crushed velvet liner
I messed up and didn’t allow enough inside clearance and the lid set down onto the keys,...not good.
So I routed a recess and painted it black, then took scraps and set them into this well and poured epoxy to fill it up. I then ground it down in a free form manner with my angle grinder and Foredom, then sanded it all smooth. Nice save!
