I’ve wanted to do this project for several years and finally got to it this spring. It was time to repair and paint the fence so I included this on the work list. I built the side frames from 4×4 and 2×6 using a decorative mortis and tennon joint for detail. The sides are held together with 2×6 and the side panels are made of lap joints cut on 8 inch intervals to create the grill. The top is the same 2×6 with a decorative cut on the ends covered with 2×2 strips to support plants. The arch is strictly decorative but adds the character that the arbor needs. It also compliments the concave arch in the gate. Its all made of pressure treated lumber. Like the fence it got a coat of white solid stain which holds up well for years.
