I’ve wanted to do this project for several years and finally got to it this spring. It was time to repair and paint the fence so I included this on the work list. I built the side frames from 4×4 and 2×6 using a decorative mortis and tennon joint for detail. The sides are held together with 2×6 and the side panels are made of lap joints cut on 8 inch intervals to create the grill. The top is the same 2×6 with a decorative cut on the ends covered with 2×2 strips to support plants. The arch is strictly decorative but adds the character that the arbor needs. It also compliments the concave arch in the gate. Its all made of pressure treated lumber. Like the fence it got a coat of white solid stain which holds up well for years.

Great looking! Did you design this, or did you find plans? Shared this with my wife as we’ve been discussing doing something like this. Thanks for the post.

I designed it, the space between my shop and house was screaming for something to dress it up so we have been fencing and making a patio area there. It is really starting to look inviting.

Beautiful fence and trellis! Great design, match the house and the surroundings. It will be a very inviting and cozy area to hang out with family and friends. Great job!

Have your say...
