I built this for my nieces after their vanity table seat broke. It’s made of maple, held together with mortise and tenon joints, and solid as a rock. The oak plugs are just for decoration; the only screws in the piece are the pocket hole screws that fasten the top to the base. The girls were enthralled and amazed that their old uncle Art could actually build such a thing, and I made them promise to pass it down at least a couple of generations, ha ha. It boldly supports even my brother-in-law Tommy, who comes in at about 230 pounds. He says it’s really comfortable, too, and I warned him that I better not catch him sitting on it at the vanity, admiring himself in the mirror.

Nicely done in design and construct, plus it looks good.

Thanks, guys. My wife always jokes that my best projects go out of the house. These girls needed something nice in their lives, and I know they appreciated what I made for them.

Nice work and design Art. It’s amazing what the arched aprons and the dark dowels add to the overall appearance of this little bench.

That’s a beautiful and solid bench! Great design and the contrasting plugs really add to its charm. I’m sure your nieces will enjoy it for a very long time.

I could use one of these next to my recliner for my lap top. It’s beautiful.
