Before plastic, waste paper baskets were made of wood. The solid panel one is made with poplar panels and cherry posts. The multiple slat one is all poplar and both have 1/4” plywood bottoms. The first one is my take on a arts & crafts basket I found on the web. The multiple slat one has 72 mortises and I won’t be making another one of them

Nice project—beats the heck out of the plastic ones I use in my office. I never thought of making fancy wood baskets—thanks for getting my attention.

I’ve thought of making my own garbage cans,
Now you beat me to it, I am putting this on my list.

Pretty darn slick…..I haven’t seen a good wood basket in years…..I guess I just don’t get out much…....

There are quite a few plans available on the web – mostly arts&crafts. Just google it – that’s what I did. Being a woodworker, I’d rather see this full then a plastic one.

Those are dainty baskets. Great design and great choice of woods. Like them, way better than plastic ones.

Have your say...
