Project Information
It's great to be back in the shop! I am recovering from my second back surgery that I had done on July 23rd. Fortunately I was able to slowly get myself back in the shop and making saw dust. I'm still only at about half speed but I'm getting it done!
Ok, now on to the good stuff….
This box was made for a customer to give to her mother. She requested the approximate size and a cross on the top. I showed her some of my 50 year old curly cherry and she said go for it. And so I went…
The sides are what I believe to be some sort of soft maple. It was rescued from a pallet. I put it together with 3/8" box joints. The bottom is recessed and is red oak and as far as I can tell the top may be some sort of spalted oak? Any suggestions? All I know is that it is beautiful! And the cross was scrolled from some Curly Cherry that I got from one of my lumber yards. The owner said it has been in his barn at least 50 years. Once I got it home I noticed some of it is curly. It measures 9" x 5" x 4".
Hinges are still my nemesis! I welcome any and all suggestions for recessing hinges more accurately!
As always comments and criticism are always welcome. Thanks for looking and there is no better physical therapy than working in the shop!
