A very good friend called and told me his sons are into “Harry Potter” and asked me if I could make some Magic Wands based on the books & movies. I figured this would be a good project to practice turning and set to it. I turned a couple of wands out of some tropical wood “seconds” I found at a local wood supplier and after turning them i thought they needed proper boxes to be presented in. I am not 100% sure of the species but I am pretty sure 1 is Cocabolo but the other I can’t quite tell. I made the boxes out of 1/4 Poplar and gave them a antiqued finish with spray enamel and stain. I designed and created the labels and gift cards as well. A few years ago I created the Owl Woodworking name and logo for my walking stick business and it turned out to be the perfect name for the wands as well. Anyone who knows about Harry Potter will understand the owl reference. The boys loved their gifts and after showing these around I got several more requests to make some. Looking forward to getting some more practice on the lathe.
Thanks for looking,
