Through WWMM this is my first posted project. I love Steve’s projects and this is my take on his design. I made this for a gift and I don’t know about you but I think about the person while I’m making the gift for them, it just works out that way. It ties my love for woodworking and the feelings I have for that person goes into the project. It is made from Cherry, which it was my first time using it. It worked great. It was the first time succsessfully resawing too. Cherry doesn’t split like Oak and it isn’t brittle like Pine. I cut the board to try to get the grain’s cathedral pattern in the middle. I used 3/4 inch plywood to look like pages in a book and bamboo skewers for the pin in the hinge. I’ve made a few other projects but being new to woodworking I haven’t felt that they were good enough to post. But after admiring and learning from everyone here, I thought it was time to contribute. I hope you like it.

Hey this looks very good. Like your Job very much and like the way you discribe how the feelings went into the project while making it. I often think so too while i am in the process of building.
Welcome to lumberjocks and enjoy woodworking in every project!

I like the idea of using plywood for the pages.

Thanks for sharing

Jay, nice work, rookie. I like the design and the pictures. Is it really this yellow? It is a nice look, but doesn’t seem like cherry.
Keep boxing and keep posting.

No Boxguy, it’s just a bad camera. The last picture is more it’s true color. I didn’t have that much time to work out the lighting situation. It did come out a bit yellow, maybe I should have said I used yellowheart, haha. Sorry for the rough looking pictures though and thanks for the comments everyone.
