I have had the top and backer in storae under the bed for almost three years. And now that I have a shop up and running, it’s time to move forward with this coffee table.
I am torn between using black walnut or padouck for the table base. A local sawyer sold me some 2 1/4”x12”x 10’ padouk, so cabriole legs are a real possibility! ! ! And he bought a 10’ 4×4 black walnut. DECISIONS- DECIDIONS ! ! ! ! !
I also threw in a couple shop photos. and yes that is a harley (trusted stead) between the table saw and router table.

I like your choice of veneer, very nice layout.
Are you going to wrap the edges with solid wood??
If so, I would vote for the walnut. Padauk is very pretty when it is first cut, but then when the UV rays get done with it, it has a muddy brown color. At least to me it does.
Also, it depends on what type of finish you are going to use.
I just veneered up a panel that was a 4 part walnut burl, I framed it with Karlian birch veneer that was two inches wide, and then wrapped the edges with 2 inch wide walnut. And since it will get a clear finish i will make the base out of walnut.

Lets see some pics of the finished table when done.

Good luck, sounds like some beautiful wood you’ll be working with.
