Floating Platform Bed

I designed and built this bed set for a client who wanted a low platform style bed. It is constructed out of thermo-treated ash and pine, and is finished with shellac and polyurethane. The bed breaks down into small components for easy moving. The nightstands are simple waterfall style tables with aluminum dowels reinforcing the miters.

Nice bed. I am working on one now, and know how much work they can be. Large projects are rewarding to build however, and they always seem worthwhile in the end.

Great build.

That looks cool. Tell your client to be careful. I broke my toe getting out of my own platform style bed in college. Wish I could say a lady friend and acrobatics were included but I can’t, which makes it more embarrassing.

Excellent bed.A platform bed is a great addition to your bedroom. It can add the style that you’ve been looking for.A platform bed comes in a variety of choices that you can take for your needs. A solid wood platform bed works great to give your room a natural yet modern look.

Amazing work a really nice piece! One question how did you join those boards that run around the mattress. They look like some pretty wide boards did you use a physical joint or mechanical fasteners?

Im new to this but using my Uncle as a guide as he’s a master carpenter. I’m attempting to build a bed very similar to this but instead of your legs I’ll be using a hidden box to give a nice floating appearance. Would it be possible for you to explain how you are holding the slats up or are they directly resting on your legs? Thanks for any help you can give as I know this is an older post…!
