I have been working on this carving off and on for several months and just finished carving. I am trying to decide whether I will leave him as a natural look of the wood or paint him. Thanks.

I like him like he is, but if you’re a good painter….........go for it!!

Great job Mike, I get salty just looking at him. Your call on the paint.

Great looking carving Mike…He looks a little grumpy, has he lost his ship…:)
I am with Jim, I think leave it looks great just as it is.

A lot of character in this character! Hope you are a better painter than I am….. I’m horrible. I like it natural but I also like when folks use a ‘color wash’ on some of the little guys.

Very nice job carving! Personally, I like the natural wood look, but you’re the artist on this.

Great expression!
+1 for the natural finish- but then that’s just me.

Wonderful carving work Mike. I like it either way painted or plain. Here in Norway they usually use water based dyes on the colored ones so the wood grain will show through. The best of both worlds.

Definitely leave as is Mike, painted, it could be plastic from a $2.00 shop!

That’s a great carving. I love doing those styles of carving myself.

Great carving on that wonderful piece. It has a lot of great details and facial expression. Like the natural look more.
