This all started with a bunch of wood that I thought would look terrible together. Obviously that’s a great reason to put them together in a cutting board….
I ripped them into 5/8” strips—4 Maple, 4 purpleheart, 2 yellowheart, and 6 padauk. I arranged them randomly, but not so random that I’d end up with the same woods touching after the second glue up. 1st glue up looked incredibly awful (should have taken a picture)... then ta-da… after the second glue up, out comes this amazingly beautiful, almost square, end grain cutting board.
I sanded down to 600 and did several soaks of mineral oil and several coats of mineral oil/wax.
I can’t wait to make another.
