This was the last of some old black walnut wood from a rotted tree trunk and root system. I hesitated to cut into it with my chainsaw due to rocks and dirt, etc. The chunk of wood was about 15-16” in diameter on the lathe and what wood was there, or not there, ended dictating the design. I was able to cut the outside into a bowl shape but any attempt at cutting the inside threatened to destroy all the little wood projections that I saturated with CA glue. I ended up cutting a small cup hole inside and decided to turn an oblong “pod” and place it in the ‘cup’. The result, after sanding and buffing blew my mind. I hope you enjoy this unusual piece as much as I do.
