I haven’t had the time or ambition to start any big projects over the summer months, but I still find a few hours to crank out some turnings. I turned this green ambrosia maple bowl and let it sit overnight. When I went to finish it the following day it had bowed badly into an oval shape. Look closely and you can see. I ‘m hoping as it continues to dry it will revert back to a more round shape but I’m doubtful.

Even if doesn’t return to the original shape, it is still beautiful.
Just tell everyone you turned it that way intentionally and let them try to figure out how you did it.

It’s hard to pick it out in the picture. Either way it is a very nice bowl.

Nice looking bowl Doc. You should try soaking it in denatured alcohol. The process is explained here. Douglas Bordner has posted some additional links for the process on my latest project also. Thank you for sharing.

Ditto Lew.
Turning oval bowls is a trade secret.
