Here is my take on a modern Asian style box .
The box is birds eye maple and walnut and has 35mm leather hinges which worked out well ,my first try at thes and I will do a separate post on these soon .

The are two effects that just showed up ,one is in the top when you look at pic # 6 ,looks like a row of five wizards and the other is on the lift insert which looks like the sun setting over the ocean waves .

I made this box for my grandsons TAE KWON DO instructor ,a young fellow from Korea who has such a interesting approach to build confidence in young people .
This box is to thank let him and that we appreciate his work and effort .

Very nice as always, with a subtle oriental flare. I’m sure your grandson’s TKD teacher will appreciate it; and, best wishes to your grandson in his quest for oriental wisdom.

Great look, Kiefer…..I like how the lift echos the hinges. Excellent wood combination and clean lines. Looking forward to learning more about the leather hinges.

Beautiful Box Kiefer,
great job on the modern interpretation…
I like your application of the age-old Leather Hinges using Epoxy
rather than the usual tacks, much better idea!
You are on a roll my Friend, keep ‘em coming!! :)

Beautiful box all around. The top has me intrigued. Looks like a piece of maple 1X3X5(however deep the box is,front to back) cut into 1X1/4” slices, laid flat and edge glued to make 1/4” thick X 8-ish” wide X 5” deep. Am I close? Way to stretch some beautiful wood! The hinges are brilliant too! Thanks for sharing!

Nice box Kiefer. I like the unique leather hinges, the wizards and the whole thing actually. A very nice thank you gift. I’m sure it was well received.
