Right now I’m working out of my tiny garage ( so tiny, none of our vehicles will fit if you expect to open the doors…), so space is sacred! I’ve seen a lot of great scrap cart plans, but most were just way to big for my space. This cart/tool bench from Family Handyman (#4, Figure D) is perfectly functional and compact (not to mention the right amount of girly with the painted pegboard:).
No, it’s not completely finished, don’t judge me. I still need to put down the shelves and add backing to the board storage section, but it still works! I modified the plans to get the most use out of the lumber as possible, taking the table top from 20” deep down to 18” and shaving off 2” from the stud shelves (it’s 6’ wide). It makes the bench a bit narrow, but it was worth it to save a few $s and some space.

I think I have the same size garage – too small for a car! Nice work on the workbench. Don’t forget to look up when looking for wood storage areas. I have some racks I can only reach by ladder, but not everything needs to be “at hand”. You just need to know where to look. Now where did I put that maple cutoff I had last week…
