Cherry and Ash box with Eucalyptus lined box. The lid is an attempt to create the look of a water drop into a pool of water. I think I achieved the effect. This was fun to build mixing and matching the Cherry slats with the Ash inset. The finish is plain lacquer over the natural wood. The box is 6×6 x 4 and the lid is 3/4” thick with a small ridge on the bottom to center the lid on the box.

Great build and design! I agree that you accomplished your goal—it does indeed look like “a water drop into a pool of water.” Great use of wood, also.

I turned a small tenon on the bottom of the box, then cut it off when I was finished… Lots of sanding and it was like it was never there..

How cool! Beautiful box… Your use of 3 woods, delicate size, and the ripple effect of a water drop are an intriguing design. Would love to hear more about these design choices… Great job!
