Built this birdhouse out of cedar and lexan. Roof was spray-painted black and attached to inner posts. To fill the feeder, lift off the roof. Finished feeder sits on a 5ft galvanized pipe. We can’t fill the thing fast enough; have seen blue jays and cardinals as well as squirrels (only once) and rabbits. Great little project to do with the kids or, in my case, you elderly mom. Enjoy!

Plans are here.

Nice job! I just built the same bird feeder, but I changed the top to a gable roof.
Works very well but had an unintended consequence.

The feeder brought the birds and squirrels.
The squirrels kick the feed on to the ground.
This brings the rabbits.
The squirrels and rabbits brought the Bobcat.
We now have a lot fewer squirrels and rabbits.

Stellar job on the bird feeder…..I enjoy feeding and watching the wild birds as I have coffee in the mornings in our sunroom….We have Cardinals, fenches (red and yellow), tufted titmouses, wrens, woodpeckers, jays, and of course hummers around their feeders…..The birds can pull some antics sometimes….amd the hummers zip around and chase each other, and the Ruby Throated are the meanest…...

thanks for the kind words, folks.

@SteveW, you’re welcomed for the plans. i’m just starting out and really need plans to work from.

@Rick, we are really enjoying the simple pleasure of bird watching. Can’t tell a Cardinal from a Finch yet but that will come over time.
