Sandwich Boards

In the middle of all the negative comments I got from posting something on Reddit, some guy commented with “You should make sandwich boards.” I thought I’d give it a shot. I had a nice 20” long piece of maple sitting around already planed and ready to go. I cut four 5/8” strips from it. Then cut three 1/4” pieces of bloodwood and two 1/4” pieces of purpleheart. I glued up the alternating bloodwood and purpleheart and let it set up overnight (for no other reason than being tired). When I got home from work I glued it all together…. waited a couple hours, planed it down a little, sanded, trimmed corners, sanded some more, and then finished with mineral oil and wax.

Wicked easy project and cute too!

Enjoy!

Thanks! You’re all so nice. Great project to make while my kids are sleeping as it didn’t take too long to make.

Nice job! And don’t worry about those negative comments on reddit. Most are just trying to get karma for having a smartass remark, instead of actually trying to give constructive criticism. Its the nature of the beast over there I guess.

They’re approximately 10” x 6” x 1/2”

It didn’t take me long to figure out who was who on reddit, who was just there just to get karma and who actually cares about the projects people post.

What did you use to trim the corners?

I used a band saw and then sanded down with the spindle sander.

Stellar job on the sandwich boards …...They will work good, especially for those “dagwoods” you make…..That’s the kind I like…..a 3 or 4 layer wich….....!!!!!!!!!!

By the by:......Is Reddit another woodworking forum…? Never heard of it…...

Reddit is a link aggregation website that has some specific content. There is a woodworking section, however it is the polar opposite of this site. I do visit there, but I have never actually learned anything.

I’m pretty sure it’s geared toward the MUCH younger (high school aged) crowd judging buy the knowledge, topics, and demeanor of the average user.

Thanks. I’ve never had a dagwood. I’m from Maine, we eat italian sandwiches which have nothing about them. Ham, Cheese, tomato, onions, green peppers, pickles, veg. oil, salt and pepper. Yummy.
