After building the Joe Woodworker vacuum veneer press, I did a test run as part of a demonstration for my local woodworker’s guild. So, I bought some inexpensive maple burl veneer and 4-way bookmatched them in a table top and added them to this simple bedside table for my son’s room. The table is quater and rift sawn red oak to match the oak bookcase (one of my earlier projects also listed here on LJ). The veneer is bordered in walnut, consistent with the bookcase inlay. Finish is BLO and many coats of wipe-on poly to give it some protection from the abuse it is certain to see from a 5 year old!

It looks great and well made. Like the gorgeous top, the burl looks amazing with the walnut border. Great job!
