I saw a couple mosaics people had made online of a number of 8-bit sprites from some old NES games and thought I’d give it a try. Wood Man from Mega Man 2 seemed appropriate. For reference, he has a page on the Mega Man Wiki, which I discovered while working on this:
Each block is a 5/16” cube that I glued with medium CA against a framing square to keep things even. All together I used about 960 pieces of oak, cherry, walnut, poplar, blackwood and bloodwood. Once it was completed, I glued the entire thing to a 1/2” plywood back and belt sanded the front smooth. Finish was a few coats of oak-tinted danish oil and wipe-on poly.
Proof positive once again, there’s no such thing as scrap!

I love this. Perhaps you should post an in game pic along with this one so some of the older Gentleman/ women can get an idea of what you are talking about. Im sure more folks would have picked up on 8 bit Mario. Now I have the theme song playing in my head.

That’s great. You should do a mega man one facing the other way so it looks like they are about to fight :-)

Great job!
That brings me back, though I didn’t become a die hard mm fan until the 3rd game. :-)

Very creative and artistic use of scraps. Like the design and wood colors. It looks cool and amazing, great job!
