Last spring a friend gave me several nice pieces of cedar that he cut down and had guy with a portable sawmill slice up. I am currently working on a cedar chest for my wife. We decided to make him and his wife a quilt rack when I am finished. I always put something on the ends of the rack. I couldn’t find anything religious to put on there so I thousght I might make a couple of crosses. (he is a Baptist preacher) While taking a break from the chest I took some of my scraps and came up with this cross.
I ran a strip through the table saw at a 45 deg. flipped it around and made another 45 deg. cut. I then used my miter saw at 45 deg. for the ends. Just a few coats of poly for the shine. It’s a bit big for the quilt rack but we hung in in the living room. Not bad for just playing around.
P.S.
The cedar is sawn rough. I wish I had a planer. Have used up many, many sanding belts. I’ll post the chest soon. I also made several items to sell for the Cancer society at my wifes work. I’ll post them after the raffle drawing.

Very nice, yep sounds like you need to get a planer that would be way to much sanding for me.

I really do like the cross and I have always loved cedar. I wish more people would post pictures of the crosses they have come up with.
