I have a friend who is wood floor installer and he let me have his waste from prior projects to create this decorative inset at an inset wall above my mantle and T.V. The picture does not seems to do justice on how the light reflects of the variation of thicknesses and shadowing but would be interested in feedback.
Each wood piece (no laminates) is cut to a 4 1/4” square and randomly laid out using at least 12 different woods. I used mastic to attach each piece one by one alternating the joints. Hardest part was preparing all the wood to exact size which I did with a table saw and miter saw.
I have a larger inset at my stairway and will be tackling that one next with photos…wish me luck!
