My mother in-law found a picture and plans for this table in a magazine and asked if I could build something similar. The original had the top attached to the rotating storage area, which to me was not very useful if you wanted to put a lamp or something on the table. So I modified the original design in several ways:
The top is now stationary, a 1” black iron pipe runs through the center of the table with flanges on the top and bottom to hold the top in place, the top then just screws to the table.
The original storage area divider plan also wasn’t very useful, unless you were storing a lot of books that were 14” tall and not very deep. So I came up with an alternate storage plan to have two sections better suited to paper-back books, CDs and DVD’s while the other two sections can still accommodate 14” high phone books but much deeper books than what the original design would have been able to hold.
The entire project is made with maple wood and plywood and we put a 14” ceramic tile in the top’s center to provide an accent piece as well as a water proof area for setting your beer. I got the 1” flanges and pipe cut and threaded to length at the local HW store.
