A few weeks ago I posted pictures of a chess set and board I made for my fathers up coming 80th birthday.
http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/AlanY/blog/5032
The finish on the table is oil paint, black lacquer and Mica gilding powder.
The set will be displayed on a table. The table is made from Poplar, brass, Maple and Walnut. Here are some pictures of the finished table and the chess set. The Chess set was turned from aluminum and coated with enamel.
Thanks for looking.

A lot of patience and care went into that table. Nice job.

Wow…absoulutly beautiful! I love the design and the textured finish on the table. I really like the way you matched the corner pieces and the feet of the chess board with the same materials you used for the board. That looks like it belongs in a mansion! Great job..I know quite a few chess addicts that would love to have that in their living rooms!

Beautiful work. Did you outsource the chess pieces or turn them yourself?

Thanks for all the gracious comments…
OutPutter- I turned all the pieces on a metal lathe. I cut out the horse head profiles on a bandsaw then brought them into shape using a series of files.
