My wife was using an old cigar box for a pencil box that she would also use as a lap table to grade papers, do puzzles, etc. The cigar box was falling apart, so for her birthday I built her a new box.
The walnut burl is veneer, the rest is curly maple and oak plywood. The top is sized so the burl is 8 1/2” x 11”, size of a standard piece of paper. The top was also epoxied to provide a smooth, durable surface for her to write on.

Very nice touch. This little box is a nice addition to anyone’s desk. Excellent job on the veneer. I would love to see more pics of this project. It would make a great project for a woodshop class.
