I’ve been wanting to build a new desk for a long time and finally got around to it this summer. The piece is made almost entirely out of 3/4” birch ply. The pillars are laminated from three pieces of ply and have an 1/8” maple veneer on the front. All of the joints are made by cutting a 3/4” deep x 3/4” wide dado into the pillars. The shelves then fit into the dados and are held in with knockdown bolts and cross dowels. Finished with General Finishes Lamp Black milk paint and then poly sprayed with an hvlp.

Very modern! Any thought into how you’ll hide wires?

Very nice looking job on the desk/shelf project. I like the simplicity of this style desk, I actually built shelves using the same type of construction and use them as our entertainment center for the TV. Once again nice work !

They look sleek and sturdy. Like the black finish. I’m sure they will serve you well for many years. Great job!

It’s an unusual design and you did a nice job on it.
