I just finished a cherry credenza (sideboard) for my wife’s 30th birthday. It was my first project of this size, and there were many lessons learned, but we ended up being very happy with the result. It’s all solid cherry, except for the drawers, which are made of some hickory that I had lying around the shop. The shelves on either side are designed to hold wine bottles, the entire thing can hold about two cases, though I wouldn’t let my wife pack it full of wine until the cherry had a little time to color and the poly had a little time to cure. I didn’t get the third pull put on before I took the first picture; that’s why it’s missing.
It’s finished with between 4 and 7 coats of rag on polyurethane thinned with turpentine, the first few coats were wet sanded during application up to 400 grit. The last coat set for a few days and then I put on two coats of clear wax using 0000 steel wool.
I’m happy to send along a sketchup model or more photos, just send me a message.
