Well I think it’s high time that I posted some pictures of what got me into woodworking in the first place….and that would be carving wooden spoons. I picked up this fun hobby from a co-worker while teaching environmental education in 2005. I was going to buy some the spoons that he carved for my mother as a Christmas gift, but then I decided that it would be more fun to learn how to carve them myself. And it’s been an addiction ever since. These are a few of the most recent ones that I’ve completed, all are cherry from some trees that a beaver chewed down. I mostly use salad bowl finish after lots of sanding, but recently I’ve switched it up and started using Tried & True Danish oil in an effort to get off the fossil fuels.

Very nice cherry spoons. I really, really like everything about the one in the second photo.

-- I just got done cutting three boards and all four of them were too short. (true story)

I agree. Spoon carving is an obsession. I only wish I had the talent to make them myself. Great work. My wife and I love them.
