One Sunday, during lunch after church, a friend of mine told me about a problem he was dealing with for his Ikea bed. The nightstand attachment for his 9 year old Ikea bed had begun to sag and was on the verge of snapping off. I suggested that a simple platform could be built in an afternoon, using a small amount of lumber and minimal hardware. So one afternoon, a few boards of scrap pine, and $3 in hardware later, here is the finished project.

The platform is a box assembled with butt joints (glue + nails), using some relatively clear pine bed slats I salvaged, when a neighbor was getting rid of their Ikea bed frame. Rectangular cleats were glued and nailed to the corners of the platform, housing the tee nuts and bolts. To hide the bolt heads, I drilled a hole halfway through a few 1.25” square pieces of pine, and glued the bolt heads into those holes. A coat of Zinsser SealCoat and the platform blends in quite well with the nightstand attachment. Not bad for an afternoon scrap wood project.

Very well done. A nice useful project that saved some cheaper made stuff!
