This is cherry bowl that is going to be a gift for my friend’s wife who had surgery last week and is not feeling too good yet. It was a bowl that I sunk in my chip barrel in early May and it was 20% moisture content then. It was 6% when I pulled it out yesterday and warped about 1/8” off center. I had to try out the new lathe today and it works just fine!

It is 5 1/2” diameter and 2 1/2” high and finished with EEE and Shellawax.

Cheers, Jim

Good looking bowl Jim. I’m just wondering what made you more happy, the bowl turning out nice for your wife’s friend or the way your new lathe works? Both I’m sure. LOL

Thank you all for the nice comments!
Hi Pete, this is the first piece off the new lathe. It is so much quieter than the old one!

Hi Dave. I took the bowl down to Mike’s wife tonight and she just got back from the hospital for a sudden heart problem. I hope it makes her feel better tomorrow!

There are 2 more chestnut bowls in the chip barrel!!

Cheers, Jim

Great job on the cherry bowl. To me cherry turns better than any other wood I have tried. Nice finish on the bowl also.
I must have missed about you getting a new lathe. What brand did you get?
