Saw this on project on The Woodsmith Shop TV and just had to make one. Classic old design, added the slot for easy picking up. Made with red oak, painted flat black and top stained with mahagony Minwax gel stain. Love this old style of bench. This one is 38” long, the plan calls for 48”. Make the length whatever your space requires. The mortise and tenons on this are “dead on”and made on a table saw, no drilling required. The plans are free on their web site, check it out.

I plan to use this as a bench while putting my boots on. The wife likes it as a table for her plants. Not sure yet who will win (yeah right, I guess it’s hers)!

I remember seeing that show and thinking about building one. I like your version with the hole in it for moving it around. Nice job. Looks like you’ll have to make another for yourself.

Looks wonderful Bob, maybe do one with one of your fancy cutting board tops?

beautiful Bob, Basic Black with a great top makes a great piece.

I’ve heard it called a “One Board Table” When you only have one board that is so beautiful and you can’t make a big piece. You make a One Board top and make the rest black.

You have to be proud of this bench, it is a classic. Did you use biscuits for putting the top together? I like the boot idea.
