Made for a dear friend who just bought a new house, I based this all wood project on the plastic one I saw online. She is the ‘Queen of Google Maps’ so I figured it only fitting to have her new home marked accordingly!
I don’t have much hope it will ever be inhabited due to the dark color of the entrance, but I made the house behind the Google marker with small wren type birds in mind. Basic 4’x4’ floor, a few inches to the floor from the door and a hinged roof to clean out the house if needed.
This was also my first experiment with a scroll saw and spray paint – I think it came out OK but the process was not without it’s challenges. Obviously my taping skills need work – though all lines came out clean my over zealous use of tape instead of paper left marks on the red paint after I painted the black border and center. I did not let the red dry long enough I think so when I decided it needed to be sanded and repainted, I let the black dry for 72 hours before laying tape on it. This seemed to work as I got an even coat out of both colors at the end of the day.
The birdhouse was hung while my friend was away and I guess it was quite a moment when she noticed it from the hot tub the next morning!
Thanks for checking it out!
