This is the second name board that I carved for my son. They are both hanging in his room. The wood is pine.

Let me be the first to say, “THAT IS COOL!” What kid wouldn’t love it? Well done.

I’d like to know how you carved the letters. Details please!

I layed out my son’s name with Microsoft Word in a size and style that I liked, then I cut out the letters and traced them onto the board. I know there are other less tedious ways of doing this, but that’s how I did it. Then I took my carving knife and made cuts down the central parts of each letter and started chipping it out. I continued doing this until the letters were deep enough and as wide as my patterns. For the really small parts of the letters I used the above technique, but shallower, and I also used a small v gouge.

Great carving on that good looking sign. Nice accents on the shells. Great job!

Have your say...
