Just a box with hand cut dovetails

This was a piece of firewood that i held back for 10 years it laid in my shop. I finally had a need for making a small tool box for my chainsaw tools. This was on a whim of a design and i only had one block of wood to make the whole project. I have used some Walnut as stretchers and trim to get it all done. This design was all driven with the limited amount of wood. The main species is Oak and the grain runs around the box as book matched cuts. It has a free floating bottom to compensate for movement. All dovetail cuts were by hand and chop chiseled fit. Just to guess, it was about 20 hours along the way to finish it. It is a rubbed tung oil- varnish finish. I have other pics of the assembly i will update later. Thanks for looking, Dan

Excellant dovetailing. Chainsaw tools should be happy!

Just a “very, very nice” box with hand cut dovetails. Wish I could do that.

Really, just a box he says. Looks more like a sick display of woodworking skill to me.

Congratulations on a wonderful build. This is the type of project that a person who loves wood can’t help but look at and enjoy. I’m not sure this is the right word but there’s something “raw” about it, something down to earth, that is so striking. And I haven’t even mentioned your craftsmanship! Well done.

Really great job on this. Those dovetails on compound angles seem tricky.
